For John Kitolano, moving from Odd in Norway’s Telemark region (perfect for a driving holiday – Sport Witness travel tips) to Wolverhampton will have been a big change.

That he’s not Portuguese won’t have helped. There’s no ready made community for him to fit into, regardless of how much Wolves will help the youngster.

At just 18 years of age, adapting was always going to a big factor in whether the transfer will work out in the long term and it’s going the right way, according to the player himself.

Norwegian newspaper Varden were great with the Wolves transfer story, they reported the scouting, interest, and how the deal actually happened. It’s fair that now they’ve got an interview with Kitolano to ask how things are going.

The Wolves defender explained: “It was a bit tough at first. The first two weeks were a bit difficult. I’ve always been used to people around me all the time, so suddenly being alone was a little unusual. But now I’ve got some Danish and Portuguese buddies, so now I’m very good.”

The Portuguese bit goes without saying, but we’re not sure where the Danish pals have appeared from.

Now moving into an apartment near Molineux, Kitolano is having to get used to a whole new way of living and responsibility: “It has been quite fine to stay in a hotel, but I know it’s going to be good to get something. The apartment I’ve got is located 11 minutes from the gym, so it’s good. It will be good to get settled. Good and a little scary.

“It’s a bit scary to move into your own apartment. Now I have to do everything myself – everything from cooking to washing clothes. It’s getting very unfamiliar, but it’s sure to go well. That’s the way it is and that’s just something I have to fix. It will be fun.”

Currently out with a hamstring injury, Kitolano explained Wolves aren’t rushing him back. The extra time is enabling him to return to Norway to pick up a few things for the new flat.
