The Portuguese press knew for months that Darwin Nunez would be their protagonist of this summer’s transfer window. And following today’s story of Liverpool’s €100m bid for the striker, there’s a big amount of comments about the rumour.
In the morning, Reds’ star Diogo Jota gave a press conference for the national team, and when asked about the potential signing, he only wanted to comment on the ‘good player’ the Uruguayan is.
Now feeding their own story, Record managed to have a word with former Almeria coach José Gomes. He worked with Darwin at the Spanish club, and given he knows the player well, he talked about the features he could bring to Liverpool’s squad.
“Physically very powerful and with tremendous potential,” José Gomes told Record.
“He is an athlete of 1.90 metres and with tremendous speed. The speed he has allows the team where he plays to reach the opposing goal very easily.”
José Gomes also gave an analysis of how Darwin could fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool, pointing out that the player has the right characteristics to play the Reds’ fast game.
“Not only for the coach himself, who is a motivator and an enthusiast, but also for the style of play he advocates. Klopp likes to play looking for spaces in the back of the opposing defensive lines, which means that we can say that Darwin will feel like a fish in water, because speed and quick attack are characteristics that he favours.”
Gomes also claimed Darwin “will certainly succeed” if the move to Liverpool is confirmed.
