When a new manager takes over at a club, it’s always interesting to see who he picks for his first game, as it tends to indicate who he felt would suit his style when he looked at the time prior to being appointed.
Obviously, that’s injuries aside, but in Islam Slimani’s case, that doesn’t come into the equation, and the Algeria international was once again on the bench, even with Claude Puel now at the helm.
The French manager’s choices were justified, as the Foxes beat Everton 2-0 in their new man’s first game in charge, but it doesn’t bode well for the former Sporting CP star.
In fact, according to Le Buteur, Slimani is ‘seriously thinking about a change of air’, with a couple of clubs very interested in his services for January.
One of them won’t come as a surprise, as Watford’s, and Marco Silva’s, interest in the player has already been well documented, but Rennes’ hasn’t.
The Algerian website claim the Ligue 1 side would like him for a loan in January, and with all the options already at his disposal, Puel could be inclined to say yes.
As things stand, no discussions has taken place between manager and player, but Le Buteur state that could change very soon.
One to keep an eye on.
