When Thomas Vermaelen left Arsenal to join Barcelona in 2014, the injury issues which followed weren’t entirely unexpected.

With only 22 appearances for Barça so far, the Belgian international has been struggling both with injuries and with managerial decisions, something that has been reportedly bothering him.

Italian website Tutto Mercato Web has a story today saying the player is concerned about missing the World Cup, and is now set to force a departure in January.

Inter Milan are said to be interested, and that’s the focus of the story, but competition from Everton and Anderlecht is also mentioned.

Vermaelen himself recently confirmed Everton interest, and attempts from the club to sign him during the summer. Insisting Barcelona refused to let him leave for Goodison Park or anywhere else, the Belgian international’s comments were then repeatedly rubbished in the Catalan media.
