Having all but acquired their centre-forward in Dario Benedetto, Marseille can now focus on other areas of the pitch they need to address, like left-back.
They currently only have Jordan Amavi, the former Aston Villa player, with top league experience in the role, which needs to be addressed.
According to La Provence, a number of players are being looked at, with the most ambitious of those being Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
Attracting a huge amount of interest in the Championship in the Craven Cottage club’s promotion campaign, the youngster struggled a bit more in the Premier League, and was unable to replicate his scintillating form as the club returned to England’s second-tier.
While described as ‘prioritising’ a stay in England, Sessegnon firmly remains on Andoni Zubizarreta’s list, who is ‘convinced of the player’s potential’.
However, finances could be a problem, as Fulham are said to hope for at least €20m for their starlet, while Marseille are only able to offer around €15m.
Tottenham could still pounce in the next few days, but if they don’t, then the Ligue 1 club will have a freer run at Sessegnon once the transfer window closes for both the Premier League and the Championship.
That might allow for more leeway in negotiations.
