Freshly backed by new investors, Bordeaux haven’t wasted time on the transfer market in January, and they’re targeting young players.
First targeting Milan’s young-right back Raoul Bellanova, the Ligue 1 side have now turned their attention to England, and more specifically Sunderland.
According to L’Equipe journalist Emery Taisne, Bordeaux will be signing Josh Maja from the Black Cats, and the transfer, unlike that of the Italian defender, is expected to be completed this month, with the player swapping teams as soon as possible.
No fee is mentioned yet, but considering the 20-year-old only had six month left on his contract at the Stadium of Light despite his importance to the team, it might not be for a huge amount.
L’Equipe’s website then added the youngster will be signing a four and a half year contract with the French club.
Maja has been key to Sunderland’s promotion bid in League One so far this season, scoring 15 goals in 24 league appearances.
The exciting prospect joined the Black Cats back in 2015 from Manchester City’s youth system, breaking into the first-team towards the back end of last season.
