When Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Manchester City are just some of the clubs after your services, you know you must be doing something right.

That’s currently Frenkie de Jong’s life, who will have to make a tough choice come the end of the season, deciding which club will be the right one to help both his career and development as a footballer.

Each and every one of them are pulling out all the stops to try and convince the young midfielder to join them, and Pep Guardiola decided to use his little book of football connections to gain an advantage.

According to L’Equipe, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the Manchester City manager contacted his former teammate and friend Ronald Koeman, who currently manages the Netherlands national team, to pass on a message to the Ajax starlet.

Guardiola is said to have asked the former Everton coach to let de Jong know how much he appreciated him to try and convince him to move to the Etihad and snub the competition.

As things stand, that doesn’t appear to have worked, with Barcelona believed to be in the lead, but you have to give the Manchester City manager a strong ‘B+’ for effort on that one.
