After claims earlier on Tuesday that Sunderland’s Wahbi Khazri was of interest to Turkish side Alanyaspor, news from France reports otherwise.
According to L’Equipe on Tuesday afternoon, the Tunisia international is said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with Rennes in France, who are interested in loaning him for the season.
Unable to earn the full trust of David Moyes last season, the 26-year-old still hasn’t entirely convinced Sunderland fans either who lambasted him after a rather insipid performance against Barnsley at the weekend.
Making a name for himself at Bordeaux in Ligue 1 in the first place, perhaps a return to France isn’t the worst idea for the attacking midfielder who, clearly talented, never managed to really adapt to English football.
Rennes are said to have been studying the possibility of a loan for the past few days, and L’Equipe claim that the French side would be taking on the majority of the player’s wages during the temporary deal.
Since the start of the season, Khazri has only played 70 minutes of Championship football, which tells you everything about his place in Simon Grayson’s plans these days.
