Yesterday there were claims Newcastle United forward Florian Thauvin was close to a move to Serie A following reports from Calciomercato that Lazio had agreed a fee in the region of €12m for the player.
It was also reported the player has agreed to sign a contract worth €1.5m a season.
To make things interesting, French newspaper L’Equipe on Friday claim Marseille boss Franck Passi remains optimistic about their chances of signing Thauvin on loan.
The Frenchman is also forcing Newcastle to strike an agreement with Marseille rather than Lazio, after being frozen out by the Championship side.
This seems to be dragging on for a while, and it’s difficult to speculate Thauvin’s next destination, but easy to believe what he wants.
The 23-year-old spent the last six months on loan at his former club Marseille, so it’s really not surprising that he wants to go back there.
Living in the South of France has its advantages.
