Memphis Depay’s future is a rather important subject in France at the moment, mostly because of some confusion, but also because of ownership changes leading to exciting transfer window targets.

Earlier on Wednesday, we covered the story in France/Belgium that Olympique de Marseille, now owned by Frank McCourt, were in talks over the loan of Memphis Depay, and we tried our best to find the source of it, to no avail.

Well, if that story is true, which we doubt it is, then Marseille aren’t the only French club after Dutch winger, as Mercato365 claim Lille could make a move for Depay in January.

The reason behind this is Luis Campos, former director of football at Monaco, who is likely to team up with Gerard Lopez at the Ligue 1 side when the Hispano-Luxembourger businessman completes his takeover.

Campos, who is also very close to Manchester United’s José Mourinho, is aware of Depay’s lack of playing time at the Premier League club and could be tempted to give him six months to find form again at Lille.

If you ask us, this sounds far more likely than a move to Marseille, mostly down to the relationship between the United manager and Campos.

Still, it remains to be seen if Depay actually wants to go elsewhere.
