With just Danny Simpson available in their squad to play as a natural right-back, that Leicester City would be looking to add a new player as backup for the role isn’t exactly a surprise.
According to Le10 Sport in France, the man they have chosen for the job is Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy, who is very likely to leave the Emirates this summer.
Barely featuring over the past couple of years under Arsène Wenger due to injury problems, the French defender was linked with a move to Marseille in January, but that never came to anything.
The French website claim the Ligue 1 side still haven’t dismissed the possibility of returning for the Arsenal man, but with Leicester also involved, it could be a bit trickier.
Le10 state the 32-year-old would be more open to a stay in England if possible, meaning Leicester would have the upper hand, and could therefore reject the opportunity of a reunion with his former manager at Lille, Rudi Garcia.
Despite having two years left on his contract at Arsenal, we can’t see the Gunners asking for two much money for the veteran defender, even if it means strengthening a Premier League side like Leicester in the process.
Debuchy is certainly one of the likely Arsenal departures this summer, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it was one of the quicker ones to be completed too, especially if Leicester put the money required on the table.
