Scoring the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea with a pile driver from outside the box, Youri Tielemans cemented his place in Leicester City folklore forever.
The young Belgian, who first arrived on loan from AS Monaco before being bought for €40m, once again showcased his talent at the highest level and could still end up playing in the Champions League with his club next season.
That is, of course, unless someone puts big money on the table and convinces the Foxes to sell in the upcoming transfer window.
Het Nieuwsblad look at the player’s future, explaining that Leicester ‘have already opened negotiations for a contract extension, but it has not yet been signed’.
They explain the Belgium international ‘wants to wait and see if they can qualify for the Champions League’, but should he decide to leave or refuse to sign a new contract, it’s stated ‘a possible transfer price is already estimated at around €70m’,
It’s important to point out, however, that overall, Tielemans ‘is happy’ at the King Power Stadium and ‘it’s expected that he will sign for a hefty wage increase’.
Expected to be the club’s Player of the Season and the ‘only non-Brit on the player’s council’, the Belgian is an important cog in Brendan Rodgers’ very well oiled machine, and it would be surprising if they were to let him go.
Then again, as the Belgian paper point out, ‘maybe that won’t stop the world’s biggest clubs’.
