These days, when a scout from Leicester City are present at a Benfica game, it’s easy enough to guess who they are watching.
After all, André Almeida has been linked incessantly with a move to King Power Stadium over the past few months, especially during the unsure period where Ricardo Pereira was being sent away to bigger clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain.
Leicester have sent a bunch of officials to watch the defender in the past, and there were even claims Lee Congerton had ‘confided’ the club had the Benfica man high up on his list should the need to buy a replacement occur.
It never did, but that doesn’t mean they’ve entirely given up on the player, as another scout was dispatched to watch the Portuguese side face RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening, according to Record.
Unfortunately for them, he didn’t play despite him featuring at the weekend against Gil Vicente and prior to the international break against Braga.
Numerous other players were, of course, on display, with expected 2020 free agent Timo Werner bagging two goals in his side’s 2-1 win, while Haris Seferovic scored the consolation goal for the Liga NOS side later on.
Former Everton winger Ademola Lookman was on the bench, and Adel Taarabt started the game for Benfica in central midfield.
In the youngster section, none of the Portuguese side’s back four were over the age of 24, with the likes of Alex Grimaldo, Ruben Dias and Ferro starting.
A lot to take in for the scout, and there will undoubtedly be some positive reports to send back to Brendan Rodgers, but André Almeida won’t be on any of them.
