It seems Leicester City are very interested in seeing what’s going on at Benfica lately.
Last week, we covered reports from the Portuguese media which stated the Foxes had an official watch the Champions League clash between the Eagles and Spartak Moscow.
On that occasion, the Lisbon side managed to clinch a place in the next play-off stage. They then faced PSV Eindhoven at the Estádio da Luz last night, and Leicester City were there once again.
It’s newspaper A Bola who says that Brendan Rodgers’ side had a representative watching the game, even though it isn’t clear who the Premier League side were keeping an eye on.
With goals scored by Rafa Silva and Julian Weigl, Benfica managed to open a 2-0 advantage and seemed to have a safe result at half-time. However, the Dutch side were more aggressive in the second half, scoring a goal through Cody Gapko, and being stopped by Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, who was Man of the Match. Now the clubs fight for a place in the group stage in a second tie next week.
Like we said last Wednesday, Leicester City haven’t been linked to any Benfica players for a while. So unless they have a surprising target for these final weeks of the summer window, we’d say they’re just starting the scouting job to see how the talents from the Eagles do this season.
