Last summer, it was announced William Saliba would be signing for Arsenal, but before he made it to the Emirates, he was going to spend the 2019-20 season on loan at his club Saint-Étienne.
It’s a formula that’s worked in the past, and it did so again here, even if the Ligue 1 club didn’t have the best of campaigns under Claude Puel.
What did happen, however, was the emergence of yet another talent from Saint-Étienne’s academy, as Wesley Fofana was promoted to the first-team around October and stayed within it until the league was suspended, catching the eye of many scouts, including Leicester City’s, along the way.
We mentioned the Foxes because Le10 Sport on Tuesday claim that while most big Premier League sides are ‘watching the evolution’ of the 19-year-old, some have ‘already moved their pawns’.
One of those is Leicester, who have reportedly ‘started the recent process of gathering information about the terms of a transfer’.
We’ll have to see what comes of it, but they would face some interesting competition, as both Milan and RB Leipzig are also said to be on the case.
