Villarreal have managed to get ahead of Real Betis in the race to sign Leicester City’s Ayoze Pérez in the winter market.

The attacking midfielder has a deal expiring at the end of this season and is not a vital part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Nicolas Jackson’s failure to get a move will ‘not prevent’ the La Liga side from signing the Leicester player.

AFC Bournemouth wanted to take Jackson from the Yellow Submarine, but the deal seems to have collapsed due to an injury. He will return to Spain and the failed operation would cost his club around €15m. Pérez’s arrival wouldn’t be impacted by this.

It’s claimed ‘everything is agreed’ between the forward and Villarreal for him to join them on loan until the end of this season.

He is now waiting for the Foxes to give the green light for the transfer

The Spaniard has asked the Leicester leaders to either release him or let him join Villarreal on a loan deal. The latter would then allow Pérez to join another club for free next summer.
