Morocco international Mehdi Carcela signed for Benfica at the start of last season, but never managed to force his way into manager Rui Vitoria’s plans.

The 26-year-old managed just over 1300 minutes of football in all competitions, with 3 goals and 7 assists to his name.

Latest reports suggest Carcela could be packing his bags again soon, and could be heading to the Premier League, with Benfica probably hoping they can bring some more money in.

According to Belgian website Voetbal 24, the Belgian born midfielder is generating interest from PSV and Leicester. The player could be allowed to leave for €3m, after Benfica spent €2.5m on him at the start of last season.

Benfica would then make a profit on the player, despite the transfer not really working out for them.

Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Standard Liege are also interested in signing Carcela, but Leicester should be considered favourites if they’re genuinely interested in signing him. The lure of being Premier League champions, and the higher wages in England, would surely help Leicester.

Carcela is primarily a left winger, but can also play in the middle, and on the right side.
