On July 19th, Foot Mercato reported Napoli are very interested in signing Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumaré.
Two days later, Il Mattino stated the Foxes are ready to allow the midfielder leave and need €20m to sanction his sale. It was also reported the English club would be willing to sanction a loan move with an option to buy.
Speaking to RAI2’s program, La Domenica Sportiva Estate, relayed by Area Napoli, Italian journalist and Napoli expert Ciro Venerato has provided an update on the Leicester player.
The Frenchman made 29 appearances last season for Leicester, who were relegated from the Premier League. He seems to be intent on leaving the King Power Stadium, resulting in reports linking him to the Serie A winners.
According to Venerato, Napoli’s interest in him isn’t as serious as reported elsewhere. In fact, the journalist says it was the 24-year-old who ‘offered’ himself to Rudi Garcia’s side, just like Toronto FC’s Federico Bernardeschi.
The Naples club have bookmarked the possibility to sign the duo, but haven’t taken any steps so far.
Soumaré’s deal is until 2026 and if the Napoli option doesn’t take off, he may have to find another solution this summer.
