Youri Tielemans needs to leave Leicester and join a team who are regularly playing in the Champions League, with Manchester City and Manchester United edged forward as options.
That’s the opinion of Belgian football analyst Marc Degryse, who believes the midfielder should be on the move if he wants to fulfil his potential.
Tielemans has enjoyed a flying start to the season with the Foxes, establishing himself as a key midfielder for club and country.
That continued this week with two impressive displays for Belgium in which he grabbed a goal against England and an assist versus Switzerland.
The 23-year-old is continuing to shine under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage, with Leicester having proven to be the perfect club for him following his struggles at Monaco.
Degryse, though, believes he should be aiming higher in the near future if he really wants to hit the heights his potential suggests he can.
“He needs to grow to the level of De Bruyne,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“And in a few years’ time go to a club with more name and fame than Leicester – even though they are now in the lead.
“Tielemans belongs in a team that plays for a Champions League ticket every year. That is possible in the Premier League. In one of the two Manchesters, for example.”
The real question for Tielemans, however, is not whether he should move but whether he will need to.
He’s guaranteed a starring role at Leicester already, something which he is benefitting from and wouldn’t be on offer elsewhere.
And with the Foxes currently top of the Premier League and showing every intention of pushing for a Champions League place, there’s no real need to rush to somewhere like Manchester City or Manchester United.
He has time on his side, and if he’s patient, perhaps Leicester will establish themselves in the top four and Europe while he is, negating the need for the transfer Degryse suggests.
