It wasn’t so long ago that the Danish press were, without smirking, linking Kasper Schmeichel with a move to Real Madrid. The Leicester City goalkeeper had been very weakly linked with a move to the Spanish and European champions, and the Danish media grasped it, took it far more seriously than it should have been taken, and ran with the idea for a while.
Thankfully, that slant has now been dropped, but it’s still considered likely that Schmeichel leaves Leicester during the next transfer window. In a feature on Danish internationals potentially on the move, the Foxes stopper is the star man, and he’s given a 4 footballs out of 6 chance of moving.
Of course, it’s not very scientific, but there’s been a clamour in Denmark for a while for Schmeichel to leave Leicester. Danish newspaper BT, who have published the article, believe Everton, Manchester United, and Liverpool could be the best opportunities.
With Ronald Koeman actively looking to sign a goalkeeper, Everton look the better fit right now, even if there’s been no strong links to Goodison Park.
