Leicester City forward Ayoze Pérez has admitted he is dreaming about playing in the Champions League after an impressive first year with the Foxes.
The Spanish forward joined Leicester in a £30m deal from Newcastle in the summer after five years at St James Park.
He has proven to be a big hit with Brendan Rodgers’ side, establishing himself as a first-team regular with 31 appearances in all competitions this season.
His numbers haven’t been too bad either, with seven goals and five assists so far, a tally that has helped Leicester to third in the table with eight games of the season remaining.
That means they’re on track to securing Champions League football for next season, something Pérez admits he’s got his eye on as it could give him his chance on the international stage.
“I don’t want to think much about playing the Champions League, but I have,” he told Radio Marca Tenerife, relayed by El Dorsal.
“I have to close the qualification with Leicester City before though.
“If I participate in that competition and I also do well in the Premier League, I can get an opportunity in the Spanish team.”
Whether Leicester can secure Champions League football for next season will be entirely dependant on their ability to pick up their form after the enforced break.
The Foxes had won their last two games before the season was suspended due to Coronavirus and looked well on course to secure a top-four spot next season.
With games against Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea all to come, however, they will need to be in top form to ensure they secure European football and round off an impressive first year under Brendan Rodgers.
