German side Freiburg could be set for an ‘unexpected windfall’ this summer should Leicester City’s Çağlar Söyüncü move to Barcelona.
Söyüncü joined the Foxes in an €18m move from the Bundesliga side in 2018 but only established himself in the first team last season following Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United.
He proved to be a big hit under Brendan Rodgers, making 42 appearances in all competitions and establishing himself as a key player.
His performances earned him rave reviews from all corners, with many tipping the 24-year-old for big things in the coming years.
Indeed, his performances appeared to have earned him attention from around Europe, with reports stating that Barcelona were keeping track of him and could make a move this summer.
Admittedly, that was before the recent upheaval at the club, but the interest was supposedly there from the Catalans nonetheless.
Kicker explain they’ve learned that as part of Söyüncü’s move to Leicester in 2018, Freiburg negotiated a 10% sell-on clause on any future move involving the defender.
Thus, if he were to make a big-money move to Barcelona this summer, the German club could earn themselves a ‘handsome sum of money’ as a result.
Of course, how much they’d get is heavily dependant on the fee Barça would pay, but Leicester are unlikely to let Söyüncü go for cheap should anyone like Barcelona come calling for him.
It just remains to be seen if they do.
With a new manager in Ronald Koeman and changes across the board at the club, it’s likely their targets have changed, and Söyüncü isn’t even on their radar.
Freiburg will hope that isn’t the case, though, with them set to fill their coffers with a nice bonus should he move.
