Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu has spoken to the Turkish press about his impressive start to the season and comments made by Gary Lineker about him.
Following the departure of Harry Maguire, the Turkish defender is now playing regularly for Leicester City, and heas been one of the standout players for the Foxes.
Speaking to TRT Spor about the pressure at Leicester City, Soyuncu said it’s not easy to fill the void of left by Maguire: “Of course, it’s not easy to replace world’s most expensive defender. There is pressure and that’s completely normal. But as a footballer, you have to overcome the pressure.
“Every player in the Premier League has that pressure. But my teammates and the manager are helping me a lot. I think we started the season quite well; we have a great friendship inside the team.”
Speaking about Lineker’s comments, Soyuncu said he was very happy with what he heard from the former Leicester City forward: “Of course I’ve not had the opportunity to meet Mr. Lineker personally. He is a former Leicester player and I know that he is following the games of his ex-club very closely.
“He is a living legend of England. To hear such things from him makes me incredibly proud. To be praised by an English legend as a Turkish player is something very special.”
Signed from Freiburg during the 2018 summer transfer window, the Turkey international failed to settle in his debut season in England, making just 6 Premier league appearances.
However, the 23 year old has taken advantage of the departure of Maguire in the summer and it seems he will be a key player for Brendan Rodgers in this campaign.
