The last thing Leicester City or the Danish national team need is an injury to Kasper Schmeichel, so it was a worry when the goalkeeper came off against Iceland having suffered a blow to his head.
So dramatic were the pictures coming from the international match, that the story was covered around world football, with some even comparing it to the Petr Cech incident. Thankfully, that was over the top and the Leicester man is already back training with Denmark’s goalkeeping coach.
Ekstra Bladet report Schmeichel took part in a session with Lars Høgh on Monday, and there doesn’t appear to be any lasting issue from the blow.
The Danish newspaper quote national team coach Kasper Hjulmand as saying: “Kasper has slept well, has no pain and has apparently escaped fortunately from the accident.”
Now there’s a chance he can play against Belgium on Wednesday evening, even if that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Leicester City will want every precaution taken with their goalkeeper, knowing they’ll need him to be in top shape for Sunday’s match against champions Liverpool.
