In November 2015 Leicester City were credited with an interest in Brazilian midfielder Renato Neto. The Gent player was being watched by the Foxes, as reported by The Leicester Mercury, but since then everything went quiet.
There’s a chance Leicester have rekindled their interest in the player, because today the club will have a scout watch Gent take on Tottenham in the Europa League, according to Belgium’s HLN, via Voetbal Krant.
Leicester will be one of a number of Premier League clubs watching the game, and Neto is expected to start the match. The midfielder has been a mainstay of Gent’s team this season, both domestically and in the Europa League, managing to score five goals in the process.
Should Leicester wish to sign the 25 year old Brazilian then it wouldn’t be a costly transfer. The club have experience of buying from Belgium, with Wilfred Ndidi arriving from Genk in the January window, but this potential transfer isn’t likely to be as costly.
Conveniently, Neto is quoted by Het Nieuwsblad today as saying: “We look forward to playing against players from the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. It’s my dream to join that competition.”
