Portuguese side Sporting have not given up on signing Islam Slimani this summer, and are close on finding a deal with Leicester City, according to reports this Wednesday.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias claims that the Lions have insisted in getting the striker, and now could announce the transfer before the weekend.
The outlet says that the negotiations never stopped, and even though Leicester City’s intention was to let the player go for good, they are now close to accepting Sporting’s offer.
Slimani himself wants to return to his old club, and that’s why he’s ready to accept a paycut of €700k so the move can be done.
The Portuguese press had already been reporting that Sporting were working to get both Bas Dost and Slimani, and it seems the club’s new president is doing a good job by getting both deals done.
Slimani was sold by Sporting to Leicester in 2016 in a €30m deal.
After failing to impress in one and a half seasons, he was sent to Newcastle United on a short loan in January, and now could head to his second spell out of the King Power Stadium.
