Nampalys Mendy couldn’t have been much more emphatic when he spoke about his desire to leave Leicester City for Bordeaux. The midfielder hasn’t had the greatest of times since moving to the Premier League, and believes a spell in France’s Ligue 1 could be just what he needs to get his career back on track.

When Bordeaux made their interest known, Mendy’s mind was very quickly made up. Not only was he convinced leaving Leicester was the right decision to make this summer, but also that joining Bordeaux was the next step.

Speaking to L’Equipe at the end of last month Mendy said: “Since my agent told me about the possibility to join Bordeaux, I’ve been fixated on that. If I return to France, it’ll be Bordeaux or nothing. I’m now hoping to join Les Girondins quickly. It’s even an obsession.”

From that point the player’s agent was said to be working on closing a deal, but things don’t appear any closer.

Le10 Sport report that Saint Etienne have now come into the equation, and started talks with Leicester. There’s the possibility of a deal but ASSE want a loan with the option to buy, and Leicester want a straight transfer.
