Leicester City are interested in the signing of Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, according to reports from the Portuguese media.
It all started on Monday, with newspaper O Jogo pointing out that two Premier League clubs were following the coach, and then with journalist Bruno Andrade claiming on Twitter that the Foxes are one of them.
The same reporter brings a more complete piece in today’s edition of A Bola, showing it all has to do with Brendan Rodgers’ situation at the club.
Leicester City are said to be ‘afraid’ of losing their manager, as despite having a contract running until 2015, he’s starting to be wanted by ‘European sharks’.
That’s why scouts from the Foxes have been watching Sporting in action, and following their interest in fullback Nuno Mendes, they’re now taking a closer look at the Lions’ manager.
There have been no offers or official contacts for Ruben Amorim for now, as all that’s happened was an approach with his agents, who’ve been told about the possibilities for the future.
The coach is protected by a release clause of €20m. And considering that he could lead Sporting to a league title after many years, the Lisbon side will certainly do everything they can to hold him.
