Former Barcelona star Ronaldinho has revealed he could have signed for Manchester United before his move to the Spanish club.
It was well documented in 2003 the Brazil legend was a target for Premier League side as they looked to replace the departing David Beckham.
Speaking to Voetbol International, Ronaldinho was asked about the interest from other clubs before he headed to the Camp Nou: “It’s true that I could have played for other clubs, including Manchester United, but I went to Barcelona because of my friendship with Sandro Rosell. My brother was already looking at what I was going to do after PSG at an earlier stage.”
Manchester United were reported to be in the race to sign Ronaldinho but with Beckham signing for Real Madrid rather than Barcelona it resulted in the Brazilian joining the Catalan club.
Ronaldinho went on to become a legend with the Spanish giants and was key in the club winning the Champions League in 2006. The 38 year old also won two La Liga titles during his time at the club.
After losing out on the player Manchester United turned instead to Sporting Lisbon youngster Cristiano Ronaldo, who like Ronaldinho went on to become a great in the game. The Portugal international spent six seasons at Old Trafford, also winning the Champions League.
