Here’s an interesting rumour returned: Alejandro Grimaldo to Manchester City.
Player and club had been much linked in the past summer and winter markets, as Pep Guardiola is said to be a long-time fan of the 21-year-old.
Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã has a story today saying Grimaldo is Manchester City’s ‘top priority’ for the transfer window, and the transfer of Ederson helped the club to get their contacts with Benfica ‘intensified’.
Pep Guardiola knows Grimaldo back from Barcelona’s academy, and since Gael Clichy has just been released by the manager, he’ll be moving for a new left-back this summer.
Correio da Manhã claims that Benfica will demand at least €35m to let Grimaldo go. The player has a €60m release clause and a contract running until 2021, so the Portuguese side are really not in a hurry to sell.
The left-back struggled with a complicated abdominal injury earlier this season, but managed to make a good recovery and ended up winning his spot again, helping the team to win the league and cup titles.
