The case involving Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino surrounding the Stadio Is Arenas, and having prison visits from his associates, is due to be heard in court today.
Cagliari only played at the stadium a handful of times, and it’s currently in the process of being demolished.
La Nuova Sardegna have reported this morning the Italian courts will today evaluate the documentation with regards to prison visits Cellino received in 2013, following the scandal with the Stadio IS Arena. The prosecutor is requesting Mauro Pili is given a one year prison sentence for helping Gigi Riva and Sergio Zuncheduu visit Cellino, now at Leeds United, in prison.
Cellino will still face the wrath of the Italian justice system over the building of Cagliari’s ground Stadio Is Arenas. Charges have been brought against the Leeds United chief, and a number of public officials for their role in the construction of the stadium.
In total eleven accused face charges over attempted embezzlement, unauthorised building and a non-compliance with the public authorities. Cellino himself was charged with attempted embezzlement for his role in the construction of Stadio Is Arenas.
Cellino sold the Serie A side in 2014 when he purchased Leeds United, but his reign has been controversial.
The process is expected to continue to drag on for some time yet.
