On Boxing Day, we covered claims from Sweden which explained Leeds United had shown ‘serious interest’ in Mjällby AIF goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist in the winter market.
It was also stated the Whites could have come in with an offer in January and that the Swedish club were requesting SEK 15m [€1.3m].
Fotboll Direkt talks about Leeds’ failure to sign the stopper in a report that focuses on the proposals rejected by Mjällby.
Journalist Ola Gustavsson talks about the Allsvenskan side raising SEK 30m [€2.7m] from player sales last summer. Both Rasmus Wikström and Arvid Brorsson, who were important to the club, left in the last window.
According to the journalist, Mjällby sporting director Hasse Larsson had turned down bids for some other players. This includes Törnqvist, who was wanted by Leeds United.
Gustavsson claims that according to his information, Mjällby received ‘bids of around 10m’ for Törnqvist, including one from the Whites. It’s most likely the fee mentioned here is SEK 10m [€900,000].
Gustavsson also questions how long the club will be able to hold on to their key players ahead of the next window.
It now needs to be seen whether Leeds United will return for the goalkeeper in the summer.
