Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci yesterday finally made his competitive debut for Empoli, but his first game for the Serie A side didn’t go to plan. The 27-year-old is currently on loan with Empoli until the end of the season.
Bellusci started the game against Udinese at the weekend, but couldn’t prevent Empoli losing 2-0. Empoli had an uphill task to get anything out of the game after conceding very early into the game, and then having a player sent off in the second half. Udinese finished Empoli off in injury time, and yesterday’s defeat means the Tuscan side are now bottom of Serie A.
The only bonus for Bellusci is he did last the whole 90 minutes on his return to Serie A, following a two year absence.
Empoli have a right of redemption on the central defender at the end of his loan spell, so the Leeds United man will be hoping things get a little easier for him.
Bellusci had to watch from the bench for Empoli’s opening two competitive games this season, and he’ll be hoping after the international break they will get something out of the game against newly promoted Crotone.
