Benfica defender Alexis Scholl has told the Belgian media he’s had concrete offers to leave the Portuguese champions this summer. The left back has been linked with a move to England in the past few weeks, with Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers keen on the player.
Speaking to Voetbal Nieuws, Scholl was asked if he would be leaving Benfica before the deadline after struggling to get games with the Primeria Liga club last season.
Scholl confirmed there have been offers from other clubs to sign him in this transfer window, and for now he will wait to see what happens. However, Scholl said if it comes to it he would be prepared to remain with Benfica if he doesn’t find another club.
“There are concrete offers, but we will see what happens. Whether it is certain that I will leave Benfica? No, it is not a foregone conclusion,” said Scholl on his future.
Last week we covered reports from Portugal that Wolves were the latest club to show an interest in Scholl as the Championship side continue to recruit players from Portugal, and in particular Benfica.
Leeds United have also been linked with the 20-year-old in recent weeks, with claims they are lining up the young Belgian to replace Charlie Taylor, if he does exit Elland Road before the transfer deadline.
