Leeds United are in talks with Valencia over a move for striker Rodrigo, with the club chiefs Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta in Spain to discuss the deal.
That’s according to Marca and AS, who report that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are looking to close a deal for the forward.
The Championship winners are keen to bolster their forward line this summer, with that area of the team having been an issue despite their successful promotion campaign.
They have been linked with several around Europe but now appear to be focusing in on Rodrigo, who Valencia are looking to sell as they aim to raise funds this summer.
AS explain that Leeds’ majority shareholder Radrizzani and sports director Orta have travelled to Valencia ‘with the aim of closing the agreement’ and securing the striker’s signature.
This is backed up by Marca, who say they pair are set to spend the day meeting with Valencia chief Anil Murthy to ‘accelerate the transfer’.
Both newspapers say Valencia have set an asking price of €40m on Rodrigo but say there is a difference between the two clubs at present.
AS describe these as ‘economic differences’ while Marca state that Leeds don’t want to pay that €40m asking price because they know that Valencia are in ‘urgent’ need of money given their current financial predicament.
Marca, though, say their respective positions ‘should be brought closer today’ when Radrizzani meets with Murthy to work out the deal.
Rodrigo, for his part, is training away from his teammates and has spent today in the gym while the rest of the squad were doing ‘tactical work’, with Valencia’s ‘official version’ being that he has ‘discomfort’.
The reality, though, is that they are in negotiations with Leeds over his sale with a deal looking very likely given the stance these two newspapers are taking.
