Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane has been called up to Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad ahead of their World Cup Qualifiers next month. The 26-year-old missed out on Martin O’Neill’s Euro 2016 squad in the summer, but has been taken back into the fold since then.

Republic of Ireland boss O’Neill has today named his provisional 33-man squad for Octobers games with Georgia and Moldova. Despite not making O’Neill’s squad for France, O’Kane was brought back into the squad earlier in the month when his country took on Oman, but was an unused substitute.

The Leeds United midfielder will now be hoping to impress O’Neill and Roy Keane when he joins up with the Republic of Ireland as he looks to add to his four appearances.

O’Kane’s call up comes after recent comments from Leeds United boss Garry Monk who said the player will be beneficial to the squad because of his experience playing in the Championship, and also the quality he will bring to the club.

O’Kane joined Leeds United from Bournemouth on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder agreed to a two-year deal, and has featured three times since arriving at Elland Road.
