With all the talk that Leeds United are on the verge of signing Junior Firpo, two other names have been left by the wayside.
Those are Romain Perraud, from Stade Brestois, and Javi Galán, currently at SD Huesca, who were being targeted to bolster the defence at Elland Road.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Leeds’ project is to improve in the Premier League ‘with a view to competing in Europe’, which has been key in ‘turning the situation around’ in their chase of the Barcelona player.
Inter appeared to be ahead of the game, but ‘the strong interest of Leeds changed the script’, and while the other two names were being studied, ‘the ideal man’ for Marcelo Bielsa’s game was Firpo.
That’s the name Victor Orta appears to have picked out of the three, which is why they have gone forward with the attempts to sign him, thus ruling out the other two.
The money coming in from this deal ‘will mean a new relief’ for the Barcelona coffers, who have been trying to lighten their wage bill and bring in transfer money from sales.
