Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has thanked Sweden manager Janne Andersson for allowing him to be with his wife as they await the arrival of their first child.

Jansson missed last week’s UEFA Nations League game against Russia but was recalled last night for the 1-1 draw against Slovakia.

Speaking to Aftonbladet, the Leeds United player was asked about returning to the national set up after being given time off: “It is nice by Janne and the national team to have the understanding they had. It has been quite tough for her. So these days were useful for our relationship.”

The Leeds United star has enjoyed a good relationship with Andersson ever since the Swede was installed as the country’s manager, just over 12 months ago.

Andersson has given the 27 year old more opportunities in comparison to the last regime and before last week’s game with Russia, Jansson had started Sweden’s last two games. This included captaining his country against Austria last month.

However, it’s unlikely Leeds United fans will be thrilled Jansson was recalled for the Tuesday night’s game in Stockholm, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side set to meet Blackburn Rovers on Saturday at lunchtime.
