On Monday, Mundo Deportivo reported Real Sociedad have taken an interest in Leeds United’s Junior Firpo and that a potential deal in the winter market would ‘involve a higher cost’ than other options.
The left-back had to wait until November to make his first appearance of the season and was in and out, before starting to feature regularly this month.
He’s registered four assists in the last four games for Leeds and his upturn in form has been noticed by Sport, which will partly be due to his Barcelona connections.
The Dominican has been subject to criticism in recent times and taking his recent form into account, the newspaper says he has shut up ‘noises from outside’ and is managing to concentrate fully on his game.
They believe the 27-year-old has recovered his best form.
Sport insist this had to happen ‘sooner rather than later’ and the former Barcelona man has now earned Daniel Farke’s trust at Elland Road, after ‘high level’ performances.
Junior’s last assist came in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Preston North End, where he was on the pitch for 76 minutes. With this, he now has four assists in the league and Sport point out no left-back in the Championship has registered that many assists so far this season.
Leeds United are said to be delighted with this latest form and this should clearly reduce his chances of leaving the club this month, amid the claims of interest from Real Sociedad.
