Leeds United winger Hélder Costa has been told to ‘wake up’ and ‘get his act together’ as his loan to Valencia fails to take off.
Costa joined the Spanish side on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, having been pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of Dan James.
He would have been hoping for regular playing time under Jose Bordalas, but that has not been the case so far.
Up to now, he’s managed just one appearance, which was an 11 minute uninspiring cameo in a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid.
Frankly, the loan isn’t working out thus far, and website Deporte Valenciano cover the situation today with a lot of criticism for the Leeds man.
They say the Angolan forward ‘has to wake up, get his act together and start giving the performance all expect’ from him.
At the moment, he is ‘showing the face’ of a Valencia signing who passes through the club without anyone knowing whether he is good or not.
He’s played very little thus far, and when he has, ‘he hasn’t done particularly well’ as far as they’re concerned.
While no one is blaming the Leeds United loanee, there is clearly something going on, with Bordalas saying his recent omission was very much his decision.
Indeed he stated Costa needs to ‘reach a higher level to be able to compete’, which suggests he’s not happy with what he’s seen in training thus far.
That’s clearly not great, and the signing, which was a ‘gamble’ in the first place, isn’t working out so far for the Spanish side.
They believe that if he ‘doesn’t give his all’ to Bordalas it’s clear that he’s not going to have a chance of doing anything at the club. Then he’ll be Leeds United’s problem again.
