Serie A side Palermo are again looking at the possibility of bringing in Nicola Salerno, according to claims in Italy. The former Leeds United sporting director has been linked with a reunion with Massimo Cellino in recent weeks after stepping down from his role at Watford.
TMW have revealed Salerno is back in fashion following the departure of Rino Foschi, who is set to return to Serie B side Cesena. Palermo owner Mauro Zamparini has for the past few years courted Salerno, and tried to get him before he joined Cellino at Leeds United.
At the time Zamparini was hoping his wife’s relationship with the partner of Salerno would help him in his quest to bring him back to Italy, and this could be a factor in his new attempts to convince Salerno to join the Sicilian club.
Palermo are looking to improve the infrastructure of the club after they narrowly escaped relegation last season, and Salerno is seen as the man to head this.
Last month there were reports in Italy claiming Salerno and Cellino had held talks with regards to a surprise return to Leeds United. The pair have a close relationship going back to their time at Cagliari, but a reunion is looking unlikely at this stage.
