Leeds United have been linked with Stuttgart’s Alexandru Maxim with the midfielder falling out of favour with the German side. Leeds United could look to strengthen this month as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has been interested in the 26-year-old for some time following attempts to sign the Romanian when he was Swansea City boss.

ZVW.de have reported Leeds United are monitoring the situation with Maxim and could look to take advantage of his situation at Stuttgart. Under coach Hannes Wolf the Romania international has struggled to get games this season, and could now be looking for a new club in this transfer window.

Maxim has started just half of the Bundesliga two side’s opening sixteen league games this season despite the player’s qualities and experience. This could now result in the attacking midfielder leaving, with Leeds United ready to move in on the player.

Maxim came through the Espanyol youth system, and went on to play for the Spanish club’s second team. After returning to his home country Maxim eventually joined Stuttgart in 2013, and is contracted to the club until June 2019.

The midfielder has represented his country in 27 occasions since his debut in 2012.
