Leeds United have this week been linked with Linus Wahlqvist, and a little digging shows the defender has been highly rated for several years, and expected to go on and have an excellent career.
In 2013, Swedish coach Soren Cratz compared IFK Norrkoping defender Wahlqvist to former Liverpool star Glenn Hysen, just before the former made his debut.
Speaking to Expressen just before Wahlqvist broke into the Norrkoping first team, Cratz said he expected the defender to be a success along with his youth teammate Elias Andersson.
“Linus Wahlqvist and Elias Andersson will surely succeed. Linus is a great player. He is a bit like Glenn Hysen. His arms and chest span. It is wonderful to see,” said Cratz on the Sweden international.
Being compared to Hysen is a big deal in Swedish football, and it just goes to show the pedigree of the defender.
Earlier in the week we covered reports from Sweden that Leeds United could look to sign Wahlqvist when the transfer window reopens in the new year. It’s been revealed Leeds United will look to make an offer for the Sweden international in January, but face competition to land the youngster.
