A regional edition of Spanish newspaper AS reports on Monday that Leeds United are one of the clubs involved in the ‘soap opera’ to sign Ibai Gomez from Alaves, potentially in the January transfer window.
AS say the winter market could be ‘treacherous’ for Alaves because whilst they may want to add players, there’s the danger of several leaving the club.
Fernando Pacheco, Víctor Laguardia, Jonn Guidetti, Dani Torres and Ibai Gomez are all named as possible exits.
Whilst there’s some players Alaves wouldn’t mind leaving, Gomez isn’t one of them. His contract ends in June and if he doesn’t sign a new deal then the January window is the last time to get a transfer fee.
AS say that before making any decision, Gomez will first listen to his current employer who will be ‘Followed by Athletic, Real Sociedad, Eibar, Leeds and Celta.’
That doesn’t seem to be a list of preference, rather those interested put in a random order.
Gomez has now been linked with Leeds United for a while, and the longer goes by without a contract renewal the better they’ll feel their chances are.
