In the final week of the transfer window, it was well known that Everton were interested in the signing of Porto striker Luis Diaz, even though the Toffees never managed to make the transfer.
And now that the transfer window is closed, it’s revealed by the Portuguese media that there was another club from the Premier League who wanted the 24-year-old.
According to newspaper Record, Leeds United chased Diaz as well.
In a short line, the outlet claims the Elland Road side had been ‘in the footsteps’ of the Colombian forward, but never got to the point where they made a bid for him.
Now even if Leeds had made an attempt for Diaz, it would have been very hard for the Elland Road side to afford such transfer.
Record today explains that last week, club president Pinto da Costa had a meeting with the player and his agent to explain that he’d not leave the club for less than the amount on his release clause, which is of €80m.
Porto were not really willing to negotiate, and judging by Leeds’ transfer window, it’s hard to imagine them spending that much on the centre forward.
