Tomáš Vaclík is expected to be Sevilla’s first choice goalkeeper in the coming season, and the club still have Sergio Rico present.
Rico was on loan at Fulham last season but with them being relegated to the Championship, the chances of a permanent move faded. He’s keen to return to English football, which is worth noting.
Sevilla would need to replace him, and today Marca reported Leeds United’s Kiko Casilla is an option. The club’s sporting director Monchi has asked for information on signing the goalkeeper, which likely means whether he’d fancy the move and how much a transfer would cost.
Marca don’t give the answers to those questions.
Monchi is looking for a low cost option, as he always is, and it’s suggested Casilla’s wages may be an issue.
Nobody else in Spain is reporting it yet, and Sevilla have several major local publications. Casilla has spoken to Marca himself on multiple occasions, although those interviews haven’t been with the person responsible for this claim.
Things aren’t serious yet, and Sevilla are testing the water for various options.
This would only take a step forward if it’s what the Leeds United player wants. If that’s the case, and if it’s Casilla pushing things, then it’s something Marcelo Bielsa will have to consider.
Back to Rico.
Marca say: ‘The paths of Rico and Casilla can cross’
They don’t outright say the Sevilla owned player could move to Leeds United, but with his desire for a return to England it would possibly make sense should Casilla’s desire be the driving factor here.
The former Real Madrid is 32 years of age and has a contract until 2023, and Rico is 25 with a contract until 2021, it’s very likely the Leeds player is on higher wages.
