Leeds United’s Robin Koch and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger have moved to help the region of Trier following an attack in the city.

Five people were killed in an incident in the town on December 1st when a 51-year-old man drove an SUV into a crowd of people.

The incident has naturally caused anguish across Germany, with victims of the incident ranging from a nine-week-old child to a 73-year-old woman.

Efforts are already underway to try and help those affected and BILD report that the Chelsea and Leeds players have joined the cause.

They have offered signed shirts to an auction for the victims and pledged to donate three times the sum of the maximum bid on either items to the relatives of those hurt.

The incident is particularly close to the hearts of both players, with Leeds Koch having grown up in the area.

“This cruel act hurt everyone who has something in common with this beautiful city,” he told BILD.

“One cannot even begin to guess what pain all relatives of the victims must suffer.

“I am sending a lot of strength to everyone involved and the whole city. My thoughts these days are in Trier.”

Chelsea’s Rudiger, meanwhile, also has close ties to the area, with his advisor and brother Sahr living in the area.

“I am in Trier quite often because my advisor and brother Sahr has lived there with his family for years,” he added.

“The crime scene was not far from my management’s office. An absolutely horrific and terrible act, for which one cannot really find the right words. “
