One of the big question marks at Arsenal these days remains the future of Mesut Özil.

The Germany international continues to be on the sidelines at the Emirates, somewhat shunned by Mikel Arteta, and with his expensive wages being paid while he does nothing on the pitch, there is a feeling it would be best for all parties to walk away as soon as possible.

That being said, the very same issue behind why he should leave is also what’s keeping him in London, as there are few clubs capable of paying him what he currently earns, or even half of that.

Whenever there is talk of an Özil exit, Fenerbahçe always come up, as the player has admitted in the past being a fan of the team, and there’s always someone around the Turkish club willing to talk up the transfer.

The most recent came on Monday as a congress member of the team, Murat Zorlu, speaking to Sport Digitale, claimed the playmaker was ‘likely’ to move to the Süper Lig team in January, going as far as saying there was a ’90%’ chance of him transferring.

While that’s all well and good, Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç has since played down that idea in claims relayed by Turkish outlet Asist Analiz.

Speaking to reporters outside the training ground, he said: “Mesut Özil is a very good Fenerbahçe man, but his financial conditions are a difficult dream for us to achieve.”

That means that unless the Arsenal player decides to take what would be a very considerable pay cut, this move isn’t happening.
