When Rodrigo De Paul took to Twitter and publicly crossed his fingers (via an emoji) regarding a move to Leeds United, there was hope Andrea Radrizzani could find the money down the back of the sofa to make it happen.
Instead, the Pozzo family’s reluctance to drop their asking price below €35-40m made a transfer difficult to pull off, forcing the Elland Road club to look elsewhere.
Since then, Diego Llorente arrived to bolster the defence, but the elusive midfield reinforcement has yet to arrive in Yorkshire.
The latest suggestion is that Erick Pulgar, currently at Fiorentina, could be the man, leaving Udinese and Rodrigo De Paul wondering what to do between now and October 5th.
Basically, Messaggero Veneto explain that ‘with every extra day that passes, De Paul could still see Udinese as his home’, where Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra is expected to join him shortly.
Either way, with Llorente arriving for €20m and Udinese still asking for €35-40m, a deal for the Argentine seems increasingly unlikely before the end of the transfer window.
