Earlier this week, Wolverhampton Wanderers announced Léo Bonatini’s temporary departure from the club.

The 26-year-old is striker is on his way to Swiss side Grasshoppers, for whom he signed a two-year contract.

That’s all Wolves said, and since Bonatini’s deal with the Molineux side expired in 2022, it seemed like his farewell. That’s how fans and media took it.

However, Sport Witness was told that the player has actually signed a new contract with the Premier League side. Just before leaving on loan, he extended his deal until 2023.

Wolves signed Bonatini from Saudi side Al Hilal back in 2017. They first got him on a loan deal, and he helped the club to the Championship title by scoring 12 league goals that season.

The Brazilian was signed on a permanent move in 2018, but with the arrival of Raúl Jiménez and other stars, he ended up losing his place. That’s why he was loaned to Nottingham Forest and Vitória Guimarães, and will now spend two seasons at Grasshopers.
